How to bleed the brakes? 0
How to bleed the brakes?

If you don't know how to bleed your brakes yet, it's worth learning. Sooner or later, this skill may prove useful. The braking system is certainly one of the most important in any car. If they are not working properly, you will probably need to bleed them. This task can be entrusted to a specialist car repair shop. Nevertheless, it is worth checking what tools you will need and how to bleed the brakes yourself? Check what you need to know

Why do air in the brakes occur?

If you want to avoid air in your brakes in the future, it is certainly worth knowing the cause. This will help you protect yourself from this problem. Air contamination most often occurs when air appears in the brake storage compartments. This may be due to a recent brake fluid change and overheating . However, air lock also occurs as a result of mechanical damage to any of the braking system components . It's easy to make mistakes and failures when replacing discs or pads.

If there is air in the brakes, the driver should solve the problem as soon as possible. It may lead to dangerous situations on the road. The force after pressing the pedal may not be evenly distributed due to the bubbles, which means that the car will drift to the right or left when braking . The pedal may also "fall in" during braking, instead of resisting.

How to bleed brakes without ABS?

To bleed the brakes without ABS, it is worth first checking whether the vehicle's technical manual contains information on the sequence of actions. If there is none, it is recommended to use the so-called general rule. So we start working with the wheel that is at the greatest distance from the master cylinder . We move closer and closer to finally bleed the wheel mounted next to the pump.

Check the brake fluid reservoir and, if necessary, fill it to the maximum level . In the established order, proceed to the air vent valves. We gently unscrew them with a wrench, usually only half a turn is enough, then the brake fluid begins to leak out. It is worth preparing a container in advance and attaching a rubber hose to the valve. Everything should be watched carefully, waiting for the moment until air bubbles stop coming out. If there are no more gaps in the flow, you can stop . Close the air vent.

How to bleed ABS brakes?

Bleeding ABS brakes is a bit more difficult. First, fill up the brake fluid in the reservoir in a similar manner. The order changes. You need to start with the master cylinder, then move to the left front wheel, then the right front wheel, the right rear wheel, and finally the left rear wheel. Turn on the ignition and press the brake pedal fully several times. The pump cannot run for longer than 2 minutes because it may overheat, so you need to take breaks. Two people are needed. One connects the hose, and the other pumps the brake pedal until a characteristic resistance appears, then presses it all the way and holds it . You can also entrust this task to specialists from the workshop.
